Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Arsenal. Today:
Gibbs joins in the praise.
Kieran Gibbs has joined manager Arsene Wenger in praising goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, who turned hero when saving a Partizan penalty in the Champions League on Tuesday night. According to Mirror Football, Gibbs said: “He is a great keeper or else he wouldn’t be here at Arsenal. I owe him a lot after giving away the penalty he saved against Partizan, although I can’t really remember too much about the tackle.” The 25-year-old Polish stopper’s confidence looks to have risen considerably since his good performance, and he has declared that he is ready for the top-of-the-table clash with Chelsea this weekend. He said: “I am ready to play against Chelsea. I was always ready, so we will see.”
Eboue in winning mindset.
Emmanuel Eboue believes that Arsenal are back in the winning frame of mind ahead of this weekend’s six-pointer with Chelsea. The Blues have enjoyed an almost identical start to the season as Arsenal, including losing for the first time this season last weekend before regaining their winning ways in Europe. The 27-year-old Ivorian told Skysports.com: “We started very well in the league, but last Saturday’s defeat was a big blow. But our spirit is strong, we came away from home in Europe and won 3-1. Our winning mentality is back, and we really need that to meet Chelsea on Sunday.”
Gunners favourites for Pienaar.
A report on FansFC.com claims that Arsenal are “almost certain” to land coveted Everton winger Steven Pienaar this summer. The deal would be on a free transfer as the 28-year-old’s contract at Goodison Park expires at the end of the season, and Pienaar was believed to have been flattered by previous compliments from Arsene Wenger. One source reportedly said: “Steven was very flattered by Wenger’s complimentary remarks last summer and has made up his mind that he wants to play for him.” However, Chelsea and Man City are also chasing the South African, and are likely to offer much strong financial packages. Spurs, Man United and Aston Villa are also in the hunt, so Arsenal face stiff competition for his signature.
