Joe Hart has lately been hailed as one of the best goalkeepers in the world but the England international believes the praise he has received has come as a consequence of the fragile Manchester City defence playing in front of him, the Daily Mirror has reported.
Hart’s international teammate Wayne Rooney is amongst the names to have lavished superlatives upon Hart in recent weeks, particularly after Hart’s display in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund, but Hart himself has refused to get overexcited. He said: “I’m just focused on the moment, on how I’m affecting my team-mates with my performance. There’s no point adding up how many saves you have made and how many you haven’t.
“Apparently, we were the ‘leakiest defence’ we have been for a while. I feel good and safe, but balls go past you sometimes and you just have to deal with that as a goalkeeper.”
Hart added that it was rare for him to be as busy in goal for City as he has been in recent weeks, offering that as part of the reason why he has been so lauded. The former Shrewsbury Town player pointed out that he had felt in that sort of form for a while but had not been afforded the chance to show it thanks to the form of the City defence.
