Manchester United have the chance to seal their qualification from the Champions League group stage with a victory over Braga. The Portuguese side took a shock 2-0 lead in the tie at Old Trafford last month before United wrestled back their advantage to take all three points.
United have enjoyed two great results in the Premier League with wins over Chelsea and Arsenal to power them to the top of the table. Sir Alex Ferguson celebrated 26 years in charge at the Premier League side on Tuesday and will be looking to crown his occasion with qualification in Braga. The Red Devils are expected to rotate their squad with Darren Fletcher and Paul Scholes both missing from the squad.
Both central midfielders were omitted from the squad list posted on the United website, but positive news for Ferguson will be the return of defender Chris Smalling. The 22 year old has made good progress in training following his return from a broken metatarsal and may be in line for his first appearance of the season. Ferguson is still without Phil Jones, Nemanja Vidic and Shinji Kagawa.
Braga cruised to a 3-1 victory over Gil Vicente at the weekend and are sat third behind Portuguese powerhouses Benfica and Porto in the table. Douglao returns following a thigh injury that has ruled him out of the last three matches. Boss Jose Peseiro is still missing Paulo Vinicius, Ismaily, Paulo Cesar, Carlao and Djamal through injury. United will be wary of Alan, who scored twice at Old Trafford to worry the Premier League side.
Defeat for Braga, coupled with a Cluj victory over Galatasaray, could see the Portuguese side struggling to make it through the group. United will be wary of a fast start from Braga, seeing as they were stunned at Old Trafford in their last Champions League tie. Ferguson will be looking to continue the good form his side have showed over the last month and secure progression to the knockouts.
