Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has praised the development of goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, and has also insisted that the Pole is among the Premier League’s top five stoppers, writes Sky Sports.
After coming through the Arsenal youth system, Szczesny broke into the first-team in early 2011, and has gone on to make 136 appearances for the Gunners. This season, he has been key to Arsenal’s success, helping them to the top of the Premier League table after 22 matches.
Arsenal currently have the best defensive record in the Premier League, conceding only 19 goals all season, and Wenger has praised Szczesny for the maturity he has begun to show. He said: “Certainly a part of his improvement is mental because he’s more mature.
“His decision-making is cleaner, sharper, quicker. He was always a very talented boy but because he’s intelligent he learns quickly from experience. I’m happy that I always gave him the confidence because he’s developing very well into a very strong goalkeeper and today certainly nobody would question that he’s one of the top five goalkeepers in the Premier League.”
