Arsenal have identified Southampton youngster Calum Chambers as a replacement for Bacary Sagna, the Daily Telegraph has reported.
Sagna’s contract with the Gunners expires this summer and with Manchester City understood to be interested in the France international it is by no means certain Sagna will extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium.
Paris Saint-Germain and Galatasaray are also considering an approach for the 31-year-old, although Arsenal are willing to contravene their policy of only offering one-year deals to players who have passed 30 by putting tabling a three-year extension.
Chambers was already on Arsenal’s watch list but the growing uncertainty over Sagna means the 19-year-old has attracted greater interest from Arsene Wenger’s scouts. Chambers has spoken of his happiness with life at the Saints but the south coast club could be induced into selling if the offer is right, the newspaper suggests.
An England Under-19 international, captaining the side on more than one occasion, Chambers only broke into the Southampton side this season and has little over 20 senior games under his belt.
