On Saturday, Manchester City travel to Everton looking for a massive win in their 2014 title bid. However, they have not enjoyed visiting Goodison Park in the Premier League era:
Coming off the back of a chastening FA Cup defeat to Wigan Athletic, many thought Everton could roll over in the meeting in March 2013, but that was far from the case. First, Leon Osman broke the deadlock with a vicious swerving shot past a stunned Joe Hart, before Nikica Jelavic wrapped up the points in stoppage time with a deflected effort after Man City had poured men forward in search of an equaliser.
When he was signed in the summer of 2008 for a then English club record transfer fee, all the talk was of Robinho, but overall he proved to be something of a disappointment. Perhaps his worst day in a Man City shirt came in January 2010 when he came on as an early substitute, but was later taken off himself after an abject individual display. His teammates did not fare much better, as they lost 2-0 thanks to Steven Pienaar and a Louis Saha penalty.
Most Dramatic Finish
Man City looked to be heading for a rare victory at Goodison Park at the beginning of 2003 when they entered stoppage time leading 2-1 having come from behind. Goals from Nicolas Anelka and the late Marc-Vivien Foe has turned the game around after Steve Watson’s sixth minute opener, but up stepped Tomasz Radzinski to head home the equaliser in the dying seconds and rescue a point for the hosts.
Not much meaningful action had taken place during the first half hour of the game in January 2012 until a spectator chained himself to one of Joe Hart’s goalposts in order to make a protest. The game had to be stopped for several minutes before he police and stewards were able to remove him from the upright and lead him away. Once play resumed, the game once again went Everton’s way, through Darron Gibson’s debut goal.
