Ivan Gazidis has said Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger won’t be reluctant to spend big this summer, EPSN has reported.
The Gunners ended the season by lifting the FA Cup, their first piece of silverware since 2005, and Gazidis has told supporters that Wenger will bring in new faces to maintain the momentum next season. “Transfers are obviously important and we are deep in conversations already. I am confident we will add what we need this summer,” he said.
“The manager is not scared to spend, has the experience, but as always will have to juggle a set budget,” Gazidis added. “We are all really pleased with securing Champions League qualification again. Last season was a great experience for players to win the FA Cup and now we want more.”
Gazidis was also asked about the club’s future following Wenger’s inevitable departure, and suggested in reply that Arsenal will look to appoint a manager to maintain the principles laid down by the long-serving boss. “Arsene is impossible to replace. He has given us the footballing philosophy we have now,” Gazidis said of Wenger, appointed in 1996.
“Arsene’s legacy is based on him wanting to take Arsenal to the next level, and everything he did and still does is for the future of the club.”
In his near-18 years at the north London club, Wenger has won the Premier League title three times and the FA Cup five times, as well as taking Arsenal to the 2006 Champions League final.
