Chelsea have finally confirmed the long awaited transfer of former Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa in a reported £32m deal, Sky Sports has reported.
The Spanish hit man has joined Stamford Bridge on a five year contract after negotiations for his signature started in early July and Chelsea have finally confirmed his move to the Premier League.
The Brazilian born striker represented Spain at the World Cup but failed to make a significant impact having only just managed to make the squad after a troublesome hamstring injury, but his form before this was phenomenal – scoring 36 goals in 52 appearances for Atletico, and 20 in 40 the season before.
His goals fired the Spanish outfit to their first domestic title in nearly 18 years, while a goal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge dumped the Blues out of the Champions League as Atletico made it all the way to the final.
Both the player and club expressed their delight at having completed the deal with Costa eager to test himself in the Premier League.
Costa himself said: “I am very happy to sign for Chelsea.
“Everybody knows it is a big club in a very competitive league, and I am very excited to get started in England with a fantastic coach and team-mates.
“Having played against Chelsea last season I know the high quality of the squad I am joining.”
