West Ham United are set to beat off competition from several Premier League rivals to sign Arsenal right-back Carl Jankinson on a season-long loan, Sky Sports has reported.
Despite the departure of Bacary Sagna to Manchester City, Jenkinson’s opportunities at Arsenal for the season ahead have appeared limited after Arsene Wenger moved to sign Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers from Newcastle United and Southamoton respectively.
A host of Premier League sides have been keen on taking Jenkinson on loan, with Hull City, Sunderland and Swansea City all having registered an interest in the 22-year-old, who is still seen by Wenger as part of Arsenal’s long-term future.
However, West Ham are now in pole position to sign Jenkinson after holding talks with the player on Monday. Sam Allardyce is an admirer and hopes to help him gain first-team experience, and Jenkinson is open to the idea. Guy Demel would serve as competition to play on the right side of defence, with the deal expected to be completed later on Tuesday.
