Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva scored the decisive goal for the French outfit, as 10-man PSG rallied to eliminate Chelsea in the Champions League last-16 in dramatic fashion, reports BBC Sport.
The game was even and largely underwhelming until Paris Saint Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic was sent off for a strong challenge on Chelsea midfielder Oscar. PSG, incensed by what was a harsh decision, came to life for the remainder of the first-half, but the game instead descended into fouls and remonstrating with the match officials.
Despite having 10-men, it was the visitors who carried the biggest threat after the break, but their dominance couldn’t amount to a goal they desperately needed. And it was Chelsea who instead took the lead late in the game through Gary Cahill.
With minutes of normal time remaining, PSG defender David Luiz – formerly of Chelsea – rose highest to head home a valuable equaliser to take the game to extra time.
Chelsea once again took the lead in the first-half after the restart, with Eden Hazard dispatching a penalty given for a Thiago Silva handball, but the Brazilian was to atone for his error by heading in the leveller to send the Parisians through on away goals.
