Liverpool will be hoping to edge closer to an eighth FA Cup win as they host Blackburn Rovers, who have already knocked out two Premier League sides and are targeting their first semi-final appearance since 2007.
While their attempts to make the top four is a huge priority and continuing to gather pace, Liverpool will be desperate to win this trophy and earn manager Brendan Rodgers his first piece of silverware. They will be aware of the threat Blackburn pose, having been run close by fellow Championship club Bolton Wanderers in found four.
There is also an internal desire to win this trophy for outgoing skipper Steven Gerrard, who could return for this game after missing the last six through injury. However, that absence has allowed Jordan Henderson to take centre stage as well as the captain’s armband, and the former Sunderland man will be looking to maintain his sparkling form here.
Comprehensive victories over mid-table Premier League duo Swansea City and Stoke City will ensure that Rovers will not fear a trip to Anfield, and as ever they have two strikers who can cause significant problems in the shape of Rudy Gestede and Jordan Rhodes, who are both in-demand.
But it was Josh King who destroyed Stoke in round five, netting a hat-trick as the Potters could not cope with his searing pace. This promises to be an open game, and Blackburn do carry an unpredictability factor as their league form is very inconsistent, so much so that they are out of the play-off race.
Gerrard is most likely to start on the bench, while Liverpool should have defender Mamadou Sakho back after injury. King will not be available for Blackburn due to a hamstring problem, but new loan signing Doneil Henry is eligible to play.
