Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster has been ruled out of action for up to nine months after undergoing knee surgery. It means the England international will miss a portion of the 2015/16 campaign with the Saints, reports Sky Sports.
Forster’s absence is a big blow for club and country, as he was in great form for Southampton, and potentially in line to feature against Italy in England’s upcoming international friendly. The 27-year-old has played his part in the Saints boasting the best defence in the Premier League this season, conceding just 21 goals in 30 games, and amassing an impressive 14 clean sheets in the process.
The former Celtic shot-stopper was as close as he ever has been to England No.1 Joe Hart, but is now set to be out of action for up to nine months. It means he will play no further part in Southampton’s chase for a top-four place this season, and could be absent for the remainder of 2015 if his recovery is slow. Southampton spent £10M to sign the Englishman, and he’s so far living up to his billing between the sticks, but now has a lengthy layout to endure.
