Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista has picked up a hamstring injury following the Gunners’ 2-1 win against Queens Park Rangers, ruling him out of action for up to three weeks, reports BBC Sport.
The Brazilian centre-back only recently joined Arsenal in January from La Liga side Villarreal, and was quickly given a chance to show his worth following poor form of Per Mertesacker. Gabriel was highly-rated prior to his move, and had kept his place in the backline in the last couple of games, but will now be out of action until April.
Arsenal paid £16M for Gabriel, and the defender was brought off early into the win against Queens Park Rangers, which means Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny should reprise their partnership at the heart of the backline.
Manager Arsene Wenger had previously been full of praise of the newest arrival, despite his lack of English, as he believes he could forge himself a long stay at the Emirates Stadium. As a result of his injury, Gabriel looks set to miss a crucial FA Cup clash against Manchester United on the weekend, and won’t play a part in the Premier League in March either.
