The agent of PSV Eindhoven forward Memphis Depay has denied any contact between his client and Manchester United amid speculation of a summer transfer, ESPN has reported.
It has been claimed that Depay, a Netherlands international, is on the wanted list of United manager Louis van Gaal, who worked with the 21-year-old during his time as Oranje boss, including at the 2014 World Cup in which the Dutch finished third and Depay was a part of van Gaal’s squad.
Kees Ploegsma has said however that there is nothing to talk of an early approach from the Red Devils, stressing that despite there being a positive working relationship between Depay and van Gaal while they were together with the Netherlands, there’s been no communication since van Gaal left the national team.
“There has been a lot of rumours but he still has a contract with PSV, so for now he is in Eindhoven. We have not been in contact with any clubs,” Ploegsma told Danish outlet PLBOLD. “[Depay and van Gaal] had good contact during the World Cup but since then there has been no contact.”
Depay has spent his entire career at PSV, coming through the youth set-up and breaking into the first team in the 2011/12 season. Depay has in this campaign featured 30 times under Phillip Cocu, scoring 20 goals.
