Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is considering a summer move for Dynamo Kiev defender Aleksandar Dragovic, the Daily Telegraph has reported, as he continues to look for ways to bolster his side’s defence.
Wenger is expected to be given a £50m transfer budget to work with over the summer and the defence is an area targeted by the long-term boss, despite the January signing of Gabriel Paulista from La Liga outfit Villarreal. Dragovic – or possibly Borussia Dortmund’s Neven Subotic, who has also been linked to the Emirates Stadium – would be one of as many as three purchases, the Telegraph adds.
The difficulty in convincing Dortmund Coach Jurgen Klopp to part with Subotic has led Wenger to look for other options, of which Dragovic is thought to be one. The 24-year-old, an Austria international since his senior debut in 2009, has been at Dynamo since a 2013 move from Basel. He won three Swiss league titles with Basel and the 2013-14 Ukrainian Cup with Dynamo, and is expected to be part of the side that plays Everton in a two-legged Europa League tie.
