Nothing less than a win will do for Manchester City as they take on bottom club Leicester City looking to stay in touch with Chelsea in their bid to retain the Premier League title.
Two superb strikes from Liverpool saw the champions slip to costly defeat at Anfield on Sunday, leaving them distant second-favourites to finish top of the pile. However, the performance was poor, as they left themselves too open in midfield and were overrun by a side that played extra time and penalties in Turkey less than three days earlier.
Edin Dzeko’s equaliser was a reminder of the quality that Man City have at their disposal, but at the back there have been a growing number of question marks over the form of captain Vincent Kompany, who has looked decidedly shaky all season. He must improve quickly, as his leadership is crucial to the side.
Leicester were not in action at the weekend, so will have been heartened that none of their relegation rivals were able to take three points, but with the games beginning to run out, they really must gain results to accompany their encouraging displays if they are to avoid being the third team in succession to win the Championship and to go straight back down.
They were so close to earning what would have been a vital win at Everton last time out, only for Matthew Upson to put through his own net in the closing stages. However, it was another bright showing, with Nigel Pearson’s substitutes making an impact as David Nugent grabbed a goal and Jamie Vardy claimed an assist.
Man City have a fully-fit squad available for this match, but could make changes from the Liverpool game. James Milner and Jesus Navas are pushing for recalls.
The away side still have goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel out of action, but otherwise have no injury concerns.
