Manchester United are facing a fine from the Football Association after picking up six bookings in the FA Cup defeat against Arsenal, ESPN has reported.
Referee Michael Oliver sent off Angel Di Maria for two yellow cards – the first for diving and the second, almost immediately after, when the Argentina international grabbed Oliver’s shirt – while a further five players had their names taken for various infractions.
Oliver booked Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini, Ashley Young, Marcos Rojo and Adnan Januzaj as well as Di Maria, which means United are expected to be punished to the tune of £25,000 for their lack of discipline. Januzaj was also booked for diving.
The potential fine comes as Jonny Evans starts a six-game ban for spitting at Newcastle United forward Papiss Cisse, missing the loss to the Gunners as part of the suspension. Di Maria will join Evans on the sidelines for United’s weekend fixture against Tottenham Hotspur.
United were beaten by goals from left-back Nacho Monreal and former United striker Danny Welbeck, with Wayne Rooney on target for the hosts, the goal created by Di Maria’s cross.
