Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Graham Hunt believes it will be difficult for West Ham United to lure David Moyes from Real Sociedad in the summer, as the Scot is currently enjoying life with the La Liga outfit.
West Ham are expected to depart with manager Sam Allardcye at the end of the season, with the Londoners ending the campaign in woeful form, and Moyes is one of many names reportedly on the shortlist. United are currently 9th in the Premier League, but are in danger of dropping into the bottom-half of the table if they cannot amend their poor run of form.
Allardyce’s contract with the Hammers is up in the summer, and the club have made no attempt to engage talks to renew it. Supporters want to be rid of the former Bolton, Blackburn and Newcastle manager, as they don’t feel he’s the right fit to turn the club around, and they could well get their wish in the summer.
Moyes has been identified as the perfect replacement, given his 11 years at Everton, and his impressive spell in Spain, taking Real Sociedad from the relegation places to a comfortable top-half side. And hunter feels the Scot won’t leave Spain this summer now his family are settled.
“Moyes is enjoying himself, finding that working with a high-profile club can be as rewarding and interesting. The players are working for him, his team is playing better, he has the director of football more onside than ever and the club president is beginning to think about some of the reforms he wants implemented. So for West Ham or anybody to drag him away will be much tougher now than it would have been a few months ago.”
