According to the Sky Sports gossip column, Arsenal are considering making an approach for Manchester City midfielder James Milner this summer, with manager Arsene Wenger having long been a fan of the England international.
While not a typical player of the Arsenal mould, Milner has won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and a Capital One Cup during his time with Manchester City, but things have gone stale this season. Despite having scored more goals than the likes of teammates Samir Nasri and Jesus Navas, the England midfielder still has to make do with appearances from the substitutes’ bench.
City manager Manuel Pellegrini has professed a desire to keep Milner at the club, but doesn’t appear to have a regular place for the 29-year-old in their starting eleven. His role at Arsenal isn’t likely to be much different, however, if he did sign. The Gunners have a lot of midfielders who can play in his role, but who o suffer from injuries, which is where Milner may get game time.
The Sky Blues have fallen apart on all four fronts this season, while Arsenal stand an unlikely chance of completing a Premier League and FA Cup double.
