Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar wants the players to remain focused on their fight for survival in the Premier League, and is demanding they don’t become distracted by their FA Cup final to come at the end of the campaign, reports BBC Sport.
Aston Villa impressively saw past Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, and have been basking in their success with praise towards the manager. There has been a party atmosphere following the victory, as it’s 15 year since Aston Villa’s last FA Cup final, but often such a distraction can see players taking their foot off the gas in the league, especially as the Midlands club look on the road to safety.
But Vlaar wants the squad to remain focused, as they aren’t out of trouble yet in the Premier League. He said: “We have to be careful – we can enjoy the moment but from Tuesday we focus again on the next game. It’s obvious that things have changed since he arrived. It felt like a new start and I think you can see that on the pitch. We’ve really improved the way we play as a team.”
The Villans recent form has seen them open up a gap between them and the sides in the bottom-three, but one bad weekend could drag Tim Sherwood’s men in a relegation fight once more.
Four points clear of the drop zone, with five games to go is a better situation for Villa, but considering they have Manchester City and Everton to come, there’s every chance sides below them could make up the deficit.
