According to the Express, Barcelona are weighing up making a summer approach for Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera in a bid to replace long-serving deep-lying playmaker Xavi, who will be leaving the club at the end of the season.
Herrera has shone for the Red Devils this season under new manager Louis van Gaal, and is finally proving he can be worth the large sum paid in the summer. The Spaniard has been operating in a deep-lying role for Manchester United, and is showcasing all the attributes that could make him a top player in the position in the future.
And with Barcelona desperately seeking a similar player to replace Xavi, Herrera has been linked. The Catalan giants are slower undergoing a transformation. The tiki-taka style they were famed for under former manager Pep Guardiola has long gone, and now they are looking for midfielders providing substance as well as technical ability and finesse.
However, Herrera has recently reaffirmed his desire to stay at Old Trafford for next season, as he’s happy playing in the Premier League, and finally feels he’s settling in England. He said: “It’s my dream to be here for a long time because I am in the right team, in the right league and in the right country. I feel very happy and I want to stay at the club for many years to come.”
