Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted there is no chance of Raheem Sterling leaving the club at the end of the season despite talks over a new contract coming to a halt, ESPN has reported.
The Reds are understood to have tabled a deal worth £100,000 per week but Sterling has instead deferred further negotiations until the summer amid speculation of interested parties circling in the event a deal cannot be reached.
Sterling conducted an interview on the situation that was broadcast on Wednesday in which he gave his side of the story and Rodgers has issued a reply at a Press conference held prior to Liverpool’s Premier League game against Arsenal, at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
“Concentration should be on his football,” Rodgers said when asked about Sterling’s contract. “If his ambition is to win trophies that’s aligned with what we do here. Raheem has two-and-a-half years left on his deal and he’s not going anywhere in the summer.”
The game against the Gunners sees third host fifth with six points separating the sides. Arsenal though won their last six league games prior to the international break whereas Liverpool’s run of five straight wins was ended at home to Manchester United.
