Italian Serie A side Sampdoria are weighing up making a bid for Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli in the summer, with the Reds desperate to offload him following a poor debut season back in the Premier League, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Balotelli, 24, has scored just one goal in the Premier League this season, but has only made eight starts for the Merseyside outfit in the division. He’s been on the periphery all through the campaign, and has spent more time on the bench or injured than in the starting eleven. The Italian international seemed pleased to have joined Liverpool last summer, suggesting he had unfinished business in the Premier League, but has been underwhelming for Brendan Rodgers’s side.
As a result, his exit in the summer looks inevitable. Liverpool are desperate to recoup most of the £16M they spent for him from AC Milan, and Sampdoria are one side certainly keen on building a strong strikeforce to become a consistent top-four side in the Serie A, and Balotelli’s best form has come in Italy. Sampdoria bought Everton striker Samuel Eto’o in January, and are looking for some younger blood to help them compete in Europe next season.
