Manchester United are looking to convince Burnley striker Danny Ings to join them rather than arch rivals Liverpool in the upcoming summer transfer window, the Daily Telegraph has reported.
The 23-year-old appeared close to moving to Anfield towards the end of the January window, but a deal did not go through, allowing Burnley to keep their prized asset until the end of the season when he is likely to leave as a free agent, as his contract runs out on June 30.
Louis van Gaal’s side entered the race for Ings after he impressed in Burnley’s 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford back in February. He has not scored since, but the former Bournemouth man remains the Clarets’ top scorer this season in their battle to stay in the Premier League.
Ings is now being persuaded by Man Utd chief executive Ed Woodward to move to the club currently lying third in the Premier League table. The Red Devils believe that the likely prospect of Champions League football could see the player decide to join them rather than Liverpool. Spanish side Real Sociedad are also interested.
