Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed winger Gareth Bale is a doubt for their meeting against Rayo Vallecano this week. The Welsh international has picked up a foot injury, which could see Isco or the returning James take his place, reports Sky Sports.
Bale, 25, scored the opening goal in Real’s 9-1 thrashing of Granada on the weekend, and set up a goal for Cristiano Ronaldo in the game too. He’s been ever-present this season, and did play a full 90 minutes against Granada. But Ancelotti revealed he will have checks on his foot before making a final decision.
Real have good options in his absence, with the impressive Isco and James both in line to feature against Rayo in some capacity. Bale has netted 13 goals, and has made seven assist in the league, but has come under a lot of criticism of his performances. He somewhat silenced critics in the 9-1 win, but it was teammate Ronaldo who stole the shoe with five goals.
The title-chasers are hoping to follow up on their previous win with all three points against Rayo, and Ancelotti revealed that the Welsh international could make way for Isco or James to start on Wednesday.
“We have had problems with Bale, who has a knock on his left foot which we will evaluate. We have a game every three days until the beginning of May and the rotations will be necessary. There isn’t a debate between James and Isco, it is between the whole squad which is a good thing. We have almost the whole squad in optimal condition,” he said.
“James is doing very well in his first year, but Isco is also a great player who has had some fantastic games. I am lucky to have them both. It is a good problem to have.”
