Newcastle United have registered an interest in Marseille midfielder Florian Thauvin, who is likely to cost somewhere in the region of £15m, according to the Daily Mail.
The Tyneside club already boast a number of French players in the squad and have an extensive scouting network in the country, which in recent years has allowed them to bring in the likes of Yohan Cabaye, Moussa Sissoko and Yoan Gouffran.
The 22-year-old Thauvin is also a target for Premier League rivals Tottenham, who have held talks with Marseille over a potential deal in recent weeks, although the Londoners are looking to secure him for less than the current asking price. The player has been left out of Marseille’s game with Metz this weekend amid claims that he would like to move to White Hart Lane.
Thauvin, who mainly operates on the right, has been at Marseille since the summer of 2013 when he moved from Bastia. He has gone on to score 15 goals in 75 appearances in all competitions, and has impressive record in front of goal for the France U-21 side.
