Leicester City will be looking to make it six wins in seven games and enhance their survival prospects even further with a win over Southampton, who have lost their last three away fixtures.
The Foxes were in relentless form again in their last game against beleaguered Newcastle United, with another quick start resulting in a first minute goal for Leonardo Ulloa, who was in top form throughout alongside Jamie Vardy. An experienced back three also recorded its third clean sheet in four outings.
That underlines the transformation that Nigel Pearson’s side have undergone in recent weeks, and the momentum they have gained over the course of this amazing run will ensure that they will be difficult to stop here, even by a team that has only conceded 28 goals in the Premier League all season.
A sequence of just two wins in seven games have scuppered Southampton’s hopes of making the top four, and their form must improve if they are to have a chance of overhauling Tottenham for sixth place, the final guaranteed European qualification place. Even so, this is their best Premier League season to date.
Performances such as the one which saw them lose 2-1 at struggling Sunderland have been a rarity, but conceding from two penalties and seeing James Ward-Prowse dismissed made for a frustrating afternoon. If they can withstand the early Leicester onslaught here, the Saints will fancy their chances.
Midfielder Andy King is Leicester’s only injury absentee with David Nugent now fit to return. He will push for a recall along with Andrej Kramaric, but Nigel Pearson may choose to go unchanged.
Ward-Prowse misses out for Southampton along with fellow playmaker Dusan Tadic, goalkeeper Fraser Forster, midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin and striker Jay Rodriguez.
