According to Sky Sports, Manchester United have agreed a deal with Dutch Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven for heavily-coveted forward Memphis Depay this summer, with the 21-year-old set to make the £25M pending a medical.
Depay was linked with Liverpool in recent weeks, but always viewed Manchester United as his more ideal destination, given manager Louis van Gaal had looked after him in the Netherlands national team before. The PSV man has enjoyed a standout campaign, winning the title under manager Philip Cocu, while scoring 21 goals in 28 league games.
He will join his new club when the transfer window opens in June, and is expected to be one of many names being brought in for boost their hopes of a title challenge next season. With how easily Chelsea won the Premier League crown, when only two years ago they finished more than 10 points adrift United, manager Louis van Gaal is now desperate to bridge the gap.
Depay will supply goals that United have been in need of, and with the likes of Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie potentially out of the door this summer, the new arrival could be thrown straight into the mix.
“MUFC has reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven and Memphis Depay for the player’s transfer, subject to a medical. Pending the successful completion of the medical, the deal will go through once the transfer window opens in June,” said a Manchester United statement on Twitter.
