Sky Sports pundit Ed Chamberlain believes Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho will be hungry to retain the Premier League, which should put the Blues as favourites to win next season’s title.
While Chelsea sealed this season’s Premier League crown emphatically and with some ease, given the large points gap between them and the rest of the field, Chamberlain doesn’t believe they will have as easy a time in topping the table. Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City are all expected to improve following respective lucrative summers, which should mean healthy competition for Chelsea.
However, the Sky Sports man still believes the London outfit are by far the strongest team in the Premier League, and will be by the time the new season starts. And coupled with manager Jose Mourinho still at the helm, he’s expecting Chelsea to retain the Premier League title, which is something that hasn’t been done since 2009. Having Mourinho in charge will mean the Blues won’t let up in their pursuit to continue their dominance in the Premier League, which is why Chamberlain is backing them to repeat the feat for 2015/16.
He said: “Chelsea are a very short price to win the title again next season. We know how difficult it is to retain a Premier League but the team and manager’s hunger is unlikely to dim. More important will be matching Mourinho and Chelsea’s will to win, tactical flexibility and defensive brilliance.”
