Swansea City manager Garry Monk will be holding talks with Spanish forward Miguel Michu at the end of the season, with a view to potentially integrate him back into the side ahead of the new campaign, reports Sky Sports.
Michu has been on loan with Italian Serie A side Napoli for the entire season, leaving the Swans last summer to pursue a side in Europe, following his impressive scoring exploits in his short time at the Liberty Stadium. But things haven’t gone well with Rafael Benitez’s side, as Michu has struggled for form and fitness all through the campaign.
And while Swansea manager Garry Monk previously ruled out the idea of Michu returning to the side – hinting that the Spaniard would be making a permanent move to Naples, he’s reportedly considering a U-turn, with the Welsh club having sold striker Wilfried Bony to Manchester City in the winter transfer window, which somewhat leaves a void in attack while Gomis is regaining fitness and form.
Monk revealed he has deliberately monitored Michu to see how he was performing, but hasn’t wanted to distract from his time in Italy by talking about an early return. He’s broken his silence on the matter and will consider Michu playing at the Liberty stadium again.
“Michu is still a Swansea City player and we have obviously monitored his progress there and how he’s got on. What I’ve tried to do with that situation is just allow him to concentrate on his football where he is. That was the decision that both of us took in the summer. I’ll sit down with him as soon as the season finishes and I’ll speak to him then about his future, and how best to go about it for himself and the future of the club,” he said.
