Swansea City midfielder Ki Sung-yeung isn’t ruling out the possibility of the Welsh club finishing in a Europa League place in the Premier League this season, after gaining ground on Southampton and Tottenham ahead of them in the table on the weekend, reports Sky Sports.
Swansea are currently 8th in the Premier League after 35 games, and are coming off the back of fine form in the division. Garry Monk’s men have won four of their last six games to put pressure on the sides chasing Europa League football. Liverpool, Tottenham and Southampton are their competition, and City are now only four points adrift of the latter.
European football seemed out of reach only a few weeks ago, but the Swans have been flourishing while sides above them have been stuttering, which could well see Swansea as the surprise side making the Europa League, providing Arsenal beat Aston Villa as expected in the FA Cup final. 7th would see City achieve it.
There’s still plenty of football to be played, as City have Arsenal and Manchester City as their next two games, but they will take some hope from Tottenham & Southampton having lost of late too. And Ki Sung-yeung, who has impressed in the Swansea midfield this season, wants the club to push for European football.
He said: “I think it’s not impossible that we can challenge for seventh position. Of course, we have some tough games left and it will be difficult. But we have done very well against big teams this season and we will keep pushing ourselves as hard as we can.”
