Arsenal may benefit from a bit of Real Madrid transfer business this summer, with the Daily Star reporting that the La Liga giants are willing to cash in on Karim Benzema in order to fund a move for Alvaro Morata.
The Spanish forward only left the Santiago Bernabeu last season, but he has been in fine form since making the switch to Serie A and Juventus.
The Star claims that Madrid inserted a £21.6m buy back clause into the youngster’s contract, and will look to activate it this summer. Benzema will reportedly be the one to make way for his former teammate, and could potentially be Premier League bound.
Arsenal have been linked with a move for Benzema in the past (via the Express), and Arsene Wenger is known to be a fan of the Frenchman.
He could get a chance to bring his compatriot to the Emirates come the end of the season, but the Daily Star claim the Arsenal boss will face competition from both Manchester United and Liverpool.
All three teams could use the 27-year-old, and top strikers are a rare commodity in the modern game. Manchester United have failed to get the best out of Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie this season, while Liverpool have struggled with a host of underperforming forwards (and the perennially injured Daniel Sturridge). Arsenal star and Benzema’s international teammate Olivier Giroud has been in fine form, but the Gunners don’t have many options to replace him with.
