Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is making contingency plans for the right-back spot, with current English duo Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan both out of contract in the summer…
With Javier Manquillo only on a loan deal from Atletico Madrid, it’s a position the Northern Irishman will have to strengthen, and according to Spanish publication AS, he’s monitoring Dani Carvajal’s situation.
The 23-year-old Spanish international is a practical ever-present in the Real Madrid starting XI, but with Carlo Ancelotti’s side having already secured a monster summer deal for Brazilian Danilo (via UEFA), Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Manchester United are keen to snap him up.
United, like their Premier League rivals Liverpool, are similarly in need of right-back improvements. Rafael has not developed into the European pedigree defender he once threatened to, and Antonio Valencia is by no means a long-term solution either.
United had been heavily linked to Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne, but according to recent reports in the Mirror, they’ve decided to look elsewhere – with Barcelona legend Dani Alves also a target.
Carvajal would provide an even more exciting alternative however, but it remains to be seen whether Real would even consider parting with the marauding Spaniard.
He’s quick, feisty and is as happy defending as he is going forward. Either English club will be happy to have him, but with PSG and Bayern also circling, it’ll be very hard to capture him.
