Manchester City will reportedly offer Edin Dzeko as well as £50m in their attempt to lure Raheem Sterling to the Etihad Stadium.
According to the Daily Mirror, Manuel Pellegrini’s men are worried about the prospect of missing out on the England international, with Arsenal also interested in signing the 20-year-old. City are apparently therefore willing to make the large offer for the player.
The deal would probably offer a suitable result for both parties, after BBC Sport reported earlier in the week that Sterling wishes to leave Anfield and will not be extending his current contract.
Despite the BBC also reporting that Brendan Rodgers is not planning to allow the winger to move on during the final two years of his contract, many Reds fans would be happy to see the back of Sterling, given the disruption he may cause by staying around.
The Sterling-saga may have carried on for much of the campaign, and could have played a part in Liverpool’s inability to reach the Premier League’s top four, but their lack of goals has arguably been the main reason for their struggles.
Not only will Rodgers receive a large sum to reinvest in the playing squad should the deal go ahead, but he will also have someone who can fill that void that has been left inadequately filled since the departure of Luis Suarez and the prolonged injury problems of Daniel Sturridge.
Despite struggling to make much of a mark at City this campaign, Dzeko has got a good record that can fill Liverpool fans with confidence. Despite making nearly half of his 130 Premier League appearances from the bench, he has bagged 50 goals.
And at 29 years old, he would be kind of signing that would be able to jump straight into the first team, rather than be a player of potential that needs time to adjust.
