Former French national team boss Raymond Domenech has said that he believes both Geoffrey Kondogbia and Giannelli Imbula can be as good as Juventus star Paul Pogba, according to the Daily Express.
Premier League giants Arsenal were linked with a move for Kondogbia recently, but he turned down the chance to head for north London in favour of a move to Inter Milan from Monaco earlier this week.
However, Imbula, who is still at Marseille, has been on the radars of both Arsenal and Chelsea, and though Domenech doesn’t think either player is on Pogba’s level just yet, they will be soon if they continue to develop at their current rate.
“Pogba is still the superior player at this stage. He is already a Ferrari, just like [Arturo] Vidal, although he wouldn’t know how to drive one,” Domenech said.
“But both Kondogbia and Imbula have the potential to reach his level, though. Kondogbia in particular.
“Kondogbia had a quiet first half of the season with Monaco but really exploded in the second half. He did incredibly well in the Champions League.
“But now the difficult part starts for him. He has to justify the €35m (£25m) Inter paid for him. Psychologically, it will be harder for him than for Imbula due to his price tag.
“Imbula reminds me a bit of Blaise Matuidi. He can dribble, beat his man and take risks. He has improved a lot under Marcelo Bielsa when it comes to reading the game.”
Imbula began his career at Guingamp, but made the move to the south coast in 2013, where he has been an unmitigated success. Having made 60 appearances, scoring three goals, he is being tipped for a huge future in the game and will be allowed to leave Marseille this summer as they attempt to balance their books.
