Arsenal may have suffered a massive blow in their transfer plans after the agent of Porto striker Jackson Martinez claimed that the player has signed for Spanish big guns Atletico Madrid, according to AS.
Luiz Henrique Pompeo appeared to confirm to reporters in Spain that the Colombian had penned a four-year deal with Diego Simeone’s side, who have paid €35m for the privilege – a number which corresponds with the player’s release clause.
Pompeo expressed his excitement at the thought of his client lining up for the side from the Spanish capital.
“It was finalized today. We want to thank Milan for their interest right up the end, we feel very honoured by it, but you can’t be in two places at once,” he said.
“It’s a very big club, which has done important things in the league and in Europe. Jackson is going there to also achieve great things and to bring the best out of himself to become even better. That’s his dream and he’s very excited. He’s really happy.”
The news will come as a huge blow to Arsenal, though, who had been keeping tabs on the striker over the past year. Arsene Wenger had been hoping to add some significant firepower to his forward line in order to take some of the pressure off Olivier Giroud, who so often carried the goal scoring burden on his own last term.
AC Milan were also credited with an interest, as they look to rebuild under new coach Sinsa Mihajlovic.
