Former Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan has apparently spilled the beans on the news that Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has agreed terms on a deal to join Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates, according to the Daily Star.
Following nine seasons with the Blues, it appears as though the Nigerian international’s time at the club has come to an end, and manager Jose Mourinho is already wasting no time in finding his replacement, having already been linked with moves for Zenit St Petersburg star Axel Witsel and Barcelona’s Alex Song.
And with that in mind, Mikel’s advisers have been holding talks with the UAE side for several weeks, with news of the deal nearing completion breaking on Tuesday afternoon.
And it is former Sunderland star Asamoah Gyan that alerted the press to the deal taking place.
“I heard it this week that he has agreed terms with Al Ain and will most definitely be playing for us next season,” he said.
“It’s great news for us because Mikel is a very good player and very experienced.
“It will be exciting playing with him in the same team, because I believe both of us, with the help of our other colleagues, can do more for the club.”
Mikel enjoyed a fruitful spell at Stamford Bridge, picking up nine major titles, including a Champions League win back in 2012.
