Manchester United are confident that they will be the ones to land Barcelona full-back Dani Alves as they look to build a potential title-winning side for next season.

The Guardian report that the Brazilian is out of contract at the Nou Camp in the summer, despite still playing an important role in Luis Enrique’s team. With the La Liga title and Copa Del Rey already in the bag, the Champions League final against Juventus will give the Catalan club the chance to land the treble. And the 32-year-old has featured in 35 games during the trophy-laden campaign.
Former Barca boss Louis van Gaal is keen to add to his defensive options, especially at right-back, The Guardian report. This year has seen Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young both used extensively in the position despite being considered midfielders.
Their main competition for his signature is Paris Saint-Germain. However, their coach – and former United defender – Laurent Blanc is unsure whether the player intends to leave the side he has spent the last seven years with.
If the Old Trafford club can seal the signing, it would be a major addition to van Gaal’s side heading into next year. While the team made huge strides as the campaign went on, the inexperience among their back four arguably prevented them developing as quickly as the Dutchman would have liked. Having won everything in Spain, Alves has the necessary attributes to help elevate the team back to the summit of the Premier League table after a two year absence.
