Liverpool have announced the signing of Charlton Athletic youngster Joe Gomez on their official website.
The 18-year-old England under-19 international has penned a long term deal with the Reds after manager Brendan Rodgers identified him as top young talent to take the club forward in the future.
Gomez made 24 appearances across all competitions for the South Londoners last term, in what was an outstanding breakthrough season into first team football.
Able to play as either a centre-back or as a full-back, and as an accomplished England youth international, will have a few years to develop into a top performer in the Premier League.
“It’s a dream come true. It’s a bit surreal and it hasn’t really hit me yet. But I’m buzzing and just excited to get started,” he told the club’s official website.
“The club has got great history and it’s a great club, and one that I’ve always been following from when I was young.
“The style of football and the top players here was somewhere that I wanted to go and get better and learn, and play good football. It was an easy decision.”
He becomes the club’s fourth summer signing in what is already proving to be a busy transfer window for the Reds, following Danny Ings, James Milner and Adam Bodgan into Anfield.
