Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has spoken out on the speculation linking him with Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann by ruling out a move for the France international this summer, according to the Daily Star.
The Blues have been heavily linked with a move for Griezmann’s signature recently, but Mourinho has ruled his side out of the race to snap him up ahead of the summer transfer window.
Speaking with Spanish newspaper Marca, the Special One said: “Griezmann is a great striker but is not within our objectives to strengthen the squad for next season.
“We’re not interested.”
Mourinho’s comments should now likely draw the talk of Griezmann heading to Stamford Bridge to a close now.
But by the same token, Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Arsenal may be buoyed by the news as they too are long time admirers of the 24-year-old.
The player has a £43.5m release clause installed in his contract, and in the past Manchester United have also been credited with an interest.
However, Griezmann himself has sought to put an end to the gossip by suggesting that he is happy to stay in the Spanish capital for the time being.
“I’m good at Atletico. I just arrived and I’m not a player who moves the first year,” he said.
“I still need to learn and know that I can do it here and get very far at Atletico. I hope I can.”
