Mario Balotelli could be on his way out of Anfield this summer, after reports suggested that the president of Sampdoria has been in England to discuss a move for the controversial striker.
Liverpool News and Goals
According to the Daily Mirror, Massimo Ferrero has flown in to discuss a possible deal for the Liverpool man, who moved to Merseyside just last year in a £16m deal, the Mirror report.
Given the fee involved, it could be argued that Brendan Rodgers viewed him as the most likely option to fill the huge shoes left by Luis Suarez, who was sold to Barcelona following the World Cup. However, the Italian international has struggled to settle back in the Premier League.
Despite appearing in 16 games in the top flight, the 24-year-old has only managed to find the back of the net once. Eventually, Rodgers appeared to lose all faith in Balotelli, dropping him for the potentially-crucial game against Chelsea, and handing a place on the bench to youngster Jerome Sinclair.
And rather than attempt to suggest that the former Manchester City man was carrying a knock that kept him out of the game at Stamford Bridge, the Northern Irishman practically admitted he had reached the end of his tether, the Daily Express revealed.
“We’ve got a young striker in Jerome Sinclair, who’s been doing fanatic in our youth and reserve teams,” he said.
“He works tirelessly every day and Mario is just not in the squad,” Rodgers added.
But, before Reds fans get excited that he will be returning to his home country for good, the Mirror suggest that Sampdoria are unable to afford the kind of transfer fee that Liverpool expect, or his wages, so a loan deal seems the most likely option.
