Liverpool have rejected an offer of £30m for Raheem Sterling from Manchester City, as they believe he is worth nearly double what the Citizens have offered.
Liverpool News and Goals
According to the Liverpool Echo, the bid involved the Mancunian club paying £25m immediately, with an extra £5m being made up in potential add-ons. However, the Echo suggest that the offer was swiftly rejected by the Reds, as they were hoping for around £50m.
The asking price is unlikely to deter the two-time Premier League champions, as the Echo believe that they are expected to come back with an improved offer, after shifting their attention across Merseyside having previously chased Ross Barkley.
With the transfer window only just opening, Brendan Rodgers surely has a long summer ahead if he wishes to keep hold of the 20-year-old. The Echo report that the England international has already rejected a new contract worth around £100,000 a week, and his agent revealed that he wouldn’t even accept a deal worth £900,000 a week.
And while many football fans suggested Sterling’s rejection of Liverpool’s offer was money-related, the player insisted that winning trophies was behind his decision.
