Manchester United are believed to be closing in on a deal to sign Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic, according to The Sun.

And while Sevilla frontman Carlos Bacca is also said to be high on Louis van Gaal’s wish list, he is ready to turn to the Croatian international in order to replace Radamel Falcao, who was sent back to Monaco at the end of the season.
Bacca had been linked with a switch to Old Trafford last week, but United are wary of spending so much on him as he continues to struggle to oust Falcao front his position in the Colombian national side, and have as such turned their attentions to Mandzukic.
Atletico boss Diego Simeone had initially rejected suggestions that he would cash in on Mandzukic, after his impressive return of 20 goals in 37 games last term, but the club are in the hunt for new strikers in a bid to turn them back into genuine title contenders once again.
Their hunt is leading them towards Villarreal’s Luciano Vietto.
And though United are deeply interested in Mandzukic, they may have to contend with Juventus, who will be looking for a replacement to Carlos Tevez.
