Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has appeared to confirm that he wishes to remain with the German side, despite interest from Manchester United.
According to the Daily Mirror, the 30-year-old gave an interview where he suggested that it was his desire to have more success at the Allianz Arena.
“We’ve won the Bundesliga for three consecutive times, no team ever has managed to win it four times. That’s a motivation,” he explained.
The hint that he plans to stay is likely to disappoint United fans, who had hoped that a deal, that would see the World Cup winner move to Old Trafford, could be agreed.
The Mirror report that the Premier League side are closing in on a deal for Southampton’s holding midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin. The Frenchman could move to the north-west for £24m.
While the 25-year-old has enjoyed a great spell on the south coast, he does not have the experience that Schweinsteiger can boast.
The German has won practically everything in the game, and having worked with Louis van Gaal before, would perhaps need little time to adapt to the Dutchman’s style. Theoretically, he would have been the perfect addition that could help the side return to the summit of the top flight.
