Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is reportedly closing in on a move to Old Trafford this summer (via Metro), so many Manchester United fans may be wondering where he would fit in their side, and perhaps more importantly, who would he replace?
Louis van Gaal’s job may be a little easier however, as Sky Sports have put together some of the Frenchman’s key statistics from last season, and compared them with those of current United trio of Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick, and Daley Blind. Amazingly, it is the Saints man that comes out on top.
Although it is Herrera that leads the way in terms of goals – finishing with six, which is two clear of Schneiderlin – it is the 25-year-old that comfortably leads the way in the other areas.
He managed 30 crosses last season, while Carrick managed none. And once again, it is the veteran that lags behind in terms of tackles and passes. He managed 71 fewer tackles and an astonishing 500 fewer passes than Schneiderlin, so he may be hoping that the manager doesn’t see the statistics, should the deal finally get over the line.
