Former Manchester United flop Radamel Falcao is reportedly poised to take the number nine shirt when his proposed move to Chelsea goes through in the next few days, according to the Daily Star.
He will be hoping to emulate the likes of Gianluca Vialli and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who were so successful for the club with the iconic number on their backs.
However, the number hasn’t been successful for everybody that’s donned the traditional goal scorers number, as there have been six players that have struggled with it.
Mateja Kezman managed to score just four goals during his solitary season with the club back in 2004, while the likes of Hernan Crespo and Khalid Boulahrouz both struggled during their spells.
More recently, Steve Sidwell and Franco Di Santo both failed to live up to expectations, and the less said about Fernando Torres the better.
Falcao managed just four goals in an expensive loan spell with Manchester United last term, but manager Jose Mourinho is still hoping to be able to get the best out of him at the top level.
