Real Madrid managers are famed for having particularly short lifespans in the Bernabeu dugout, but new manager Rafael Benitez won’t have done his chances of a lengthy tenure any good whatsoever…
Manchester City News and Goals
According to the Daily Mirror, the former Liverpool boss – who was appointed on a three-year deal five days ago, The Telegraph reported – has already had a disagreement with club president Florentino Perez about the transfer policy.
The Mirror suggest that both men have pinpointed a striker as the man they wish to sign, but have different views on which frontman to go for. While Benitez would like Alvaro Morata to return one year after his move to Juventus, Perez is keen on continuing the Galatico tradition by signing Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero.
Given the Argentinian’s form last season – where he claimed the Premier League’s golden boot – it is little surprise that he is attracting the attention of the best clubs across the continent. Meanwhile, Morata had a much less impressive campaign, scoring just eight times in Serie A.
However, the 22-year-old did bag the Old Lady’s only goal of the recent Champions League final defeat to Barcelona, and also scored in both legs of the semi-final against Madrid.
Whichever avenue they decide to pursue, Benitez will need to be careful to understand the Real way if he wishes to avoid being placed on the Madrid scrapheap, alongside Morata.
