Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin has been urged to turn down a move to Chelsea by his former manager Harry Redknapp.
According to the Daily Mail, Redknapp instead believes that Austin should choose a move to Newcastle, who are also reportedly interested in the forward, as he will receive more game time.
“A move to Newcastle would be the best one for Charlie Austin,” he said.
“He’s rumoured to be on Chelsea’s radar as well but, no disrespect to him, he won’t make their starting line-up,” he added.
Despite Chris Ramsey’s side struggles, that saw them relegated back to the Championship, the 25-year-old shone in his first season in the Premier League. He scored 18 goals, which earned him a call-up to the England side, and led to speculation that a move that would allow him to stay in the top flight, was on the cards.
And while the Magpies are crying for a goalscorer, after enduring a difficult campaign that saw only one of their players reach double figures in the league, it would appear that his chances would be more limited at Stamford Bridge.
Diego Costa enjoyed a wonderful first year with the Blues, scoring 20 times as Jose Mourinho’s men strolled the title. And when the Spain international was injured, it was Loic Remy that took his place, despite the presence of club legend Didier Drogba.
