While content players tend to hate the prospect of the summer months, with pre-season training looming, those that are unhappy at their current clubs would have been counting down the days until the transfer window opened so they can engineer a change of scene that could help resurrect a stagnating career.
The Daily Mirror has put a list together of the players that arguably need a move, and here’s 12 of those names that may be hoping to be wearing a new strip when the new season begins:
Mario Balotelli (Liverpool)
The controversial Italian seemed to turn up at Anfield due to desperation last summer, as Brendan Rodgers tried to replace Luis Suarez. And it’s arguably with that same desperation that Rodgers will be hoping that someone comes to take the former Manchester City man off his hands. The gamble has really not paid off, as Balotelli has returned just one Premier League goal.
Although his goalscoring record is disappointing to say the least, he has shown flashes of occasional brilliance during his time at Anfield. If he can find the right move, then just maybe we may see the 24-year-old deliver on the incredible potential he clearly had.
Petr Cech (Chelsea)
Watching Petr Cech spend the majority of Chelsea’s title-winning season on the bench was difficult. When called upon, the 33-year-old demonstrated that he still possess the quality to be considered as one of the very best goalkeepers anywhere in the world. It is testament to his consistency that many Arsenal fans view him as the final piece of the jigsaw that will help them win the league crown. Whether he will move to Emirates remains to be seen. One thing that is for certain, he is too good to remain a bench-warmer at Stamford Bridge.
Angel Di Maria (Manchester United)
When the Argentinian arrived at Old Trafford, his first few performances suggested that he would help Louis van Gaal’s men return to where they felt they deserved to be. His goal against Leicester in particular, was nothing short of sublime. However, since then, he has been practically non-existent for the side, and looks a shell of the player that outshone Lionel Messi at last year’s World Cup.
With Memphis Depay’s arrival, it may be that the winger’s days in Manchester are numbered should an acceptable offer come in.
