Arsenal will be without star playmaker Alexis Sanchez for the start of the 2015/16 season as he will be given extra time off after helping Chile to Copa America glory, The Telegraph reports.
The majority of Arsenal’s stars are due to report back for the start of pre-season training later this week, but Sanchez has been handed a three week reprieve after featuring in all six of his country’s games.
He will now report back to London Colney on the 27th July – just a week before Arsenal take on Premier League champions Chelsea in the Community Shield, and will kick off their Premier League campaign less than a week after that.
Arsene Wenger is keen to ease his star players back into the action following their involvement in summer tournaments. Last summer he gave the likes of Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski extra time off after lifting the World Cup.
Sanchez was also involved in the World Cup, and he followed that up by featuring 52 times for Arsenal over the course of his first season with the club, highlighting how much he could use the time off.
